DOUBLE TROUBLE TOMS

When the applications became available for Spring Turkey hunting, I already knew where I was going. Franklin County was my first choice, and I had a wingman this time. My longtime deer hunting partner, Kurt Kowalczyk, had never been turkey hunting and jumped at the chance. When April 18th rolled around, we hitched up the boat (for crappie fishing, not turkey hunting) and took off.

We hooked up with my buddy Jason Johns, owner of Boneyard Outfitters. We ended up tagging out on the opening day of our hunt. We both had nice birds on the ground by 9 am. Which was awesome, that gave us 2 more days for crappie fishing. So after cleaning the birds, it was time to hit the lake to fill our livewell with crappie. We topped it all off with some wild mushroom hunting and asparagus hunting – that’s what we call the Southern Illinois Grand Slam!!

I love spring in Southern Illinois!
