Bowhunters Need to Break Out the Blaze Orange this Weekend

In Illinois, this is one of the few times that bowhunters need to wear blaze orange. This coming Columbus Day weekend (October 11, 12 & 13) is Youth Firearm Deer Season in Illinois. Bowhunters need to wear the required amount of blaze orange— 400 square inches on the upper body and a blaze orange hat or cap.

Youth season is a great way to introduce young hunters without the pressure of a lot of other hunters in the woods. Bowhunters MUST WEAR BLAZE ORANGE in counties open during youth firearm deer season.

This is only in counties open to youth deer season.

Check the Illinois DNR website for all the regulations. It’s YOUR responsibility to know the laws before you step into the field.

It also happens to be Illinois Youth Waterfowl Season this weekend as well. Not sure who planned that, but Dads need to decide what goes in your backpack — steel shot or slugs. Good luck!
