HUNTING WITH DAVE WATSON AT THE BONEYARD

2012 deer camp was once again a great experience. I had my son Kyle and a couple good buddies hunting with me at the Boneyard Outfitters in Southern Illinois. Dave Watson was also there filming an episode for his show Mathews TV, which added to the excitement in camp. His crew killed a dandy 11-pointer on film on the first day of the second half of shotgun season. Dave was a great guy to have in deer camp. Mother Nature was not helping us out one bit for the hunting conditions. It was unseasonably warm and windy, and a full moon to boot. We saw some good deer and some 150 class bucks, just not any huge numbers. So by day 2, we started hunting mid-day and starting seeing a lot more deer. In fact we shot as many deer between noon and 2 pm as we did in the morning or afternoons.

We ended up filling 7 out of 8 tags and had a fantastic time. Jason Johns, owner of the Boneyard puts on a great hunt. We had plenty of properties to hunt, enjoyed  home-cooked dinners, and stayed in his brand new 5,000 sq. foot lodge. For more information, visit www.BoneyardOutfitters.com.
