FINS AND FEATHERS – FIRST TIME WATERFOWL HUNT IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

I took my son Logan and my nephew Matt Hayden on their very first wingshooting hunt — a waterfowl hunting trip to Southern Illinois. We hunted with my buddy Tony Skobel from SouthernHonkers.com for mallards out of a box blind on a private slough. I had a chance to try out some Ice Armor gear from Clam Outdoors— hats, neoprene gloves and hand muffs kept us warm and our hands toasty and pulling the trigger. Check out my review of Ice Armor gear HERE.

When the action slowed down, we dropped the boat on Rend Lake and put a smack-down on about a hundred crappie, in an hour!

On Sunday, we hooked up with my friend Nick Shafer to try our luck on the draw hunt on the north end of Rend Lake. It’s a public land drawing where first picked, gets first choice of a blind site on the lake. We had an awesome time shooting some of the coolest birds in our flyway— Bluebills, Ringnecks, and the prized Canvasback. Read the full story here.

To top it off, our accommodations were first class at the Boneyard Outfitters new state-of-the-art lodge with home-cooked meals.
