CHEVY SUBURBAN – THE ULTIMATE ROAD TRIP TRUCK

When I picked up my teenage sons for our fishing trip to Lake of the Woods, I was fortunate to be trying out a 2015 Chevy Suburban from my friends at GM. It was the perfect vehicle for the perfect trip. It hauled the three of us, plus all of our fishing gear, and boat, and coolers, with plenty of room to spare. We could have brought another man or two with us with no problem (sorry guys, maybe next year!). The third row of seats dropped down to give us tons of space, and still room to seat everyone comfortably, which was a huge benefit with a 10 hour road trip ahead of us.

I drive a Chevy Tahoe, and all I can say, this is like my Tahoe – on steroids. It handled like a champ on the highway. One of the best and most convenient features was the adaptive cruise control. You know how frustrating it is when you are set on cruise control and come up on a vehicle going slower than you? Instead of constantly having to reset the cruise, the Suburban does it for you by sensing the vehicle in front of you. It slow the vehicle down automatically, then when you change lanes it resumes you to your original cruise speed. It also has blind-spot sensors that light up in the sideview mirrors. And another cool safety features is the built in road line alert. If you drift into another lane or start the cross the shoulder line, the seat vibrates on the side where you are crossing.

The built-in navigation system was a huge plus for our trip – we programmed our destinations and received voice command instructions to get us to where we needed to be.

Although I did all the driving, my boys were digging the DVD player with Bose surround sound. The Suburban has two drop-down screens so all the rear passenger can enjoy a movie on the road. Needless to say we were road tripping in style.

Now for the the reasons why outdoorsmen need a Suburban — it’s ALL TRUCK! The towing capacity is 8,300 pounds.  We towed a 3,500-pound Crestliner without even knowing it was there. The truck also has a towing system that has superb power without sacrificing comfort. The EcoTec3 5.3 Liter V8 generates 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, so you have ample towing capability and power. The new suburban also has a lighter suspension to help with fuel economy, again without giving up a smooth ride or comfortable handling.

In addition to the superior towing capabilities, a incredibly handy feature for boaters is the rear view back-up camera. It enabled me to see the hitch ball as I backed up, so i could place it under the boat tongue without having to get out and look or have another guy “guide me in”. So for one man boat hook-ups, this nails it! It also helps when you are backing the trailer down on the ramp when it’s time to take the boat out of the water.

I could talk about all the other features like electric windows, heated and cooled seats, Bluetooth wireless technology for hands free operation, but the biggest selling point for a family vehicle is safety. The state-of the art features like vehicle sensors, as well as  SEVEN airbags make the suburban comfortable AND safe for the family.

For the sportsman with lots of kids, lots of hunting and fishing buddies, or lots of gear — this is the ultimate vehicle. This truck has more features that I can even write about here, so get more info at www.chevrolet.com/suburban-suv.
